Horseback Activities - Frequently Asked Questions

What is your horse to guest ratio?
The horse to guest ratio at Long Hollow Ranch varies during the season, but the target is two to one - horses per guest.

Do we get to use the same horse all week?
Yes, after visiting with your wrangler on the first night, guests are carefully matched to the horse that best matches their riding experience level and expectations.

Do you take in experienced riders at Long Hollow Ranch? Yes. All experience levels from a first time horseback rider to experienced riders are welcome.

Do you have a children's program?
We are not large enough to have special children's programs so we offer a family program.

How old do children need to be to ride at Long Hollow? Pony rides are available for guests under six. Children under six are welcome to ride in the arena and take lessons. Trail rides are available to those six and over that show good horse control and interest in riding. Cattle work is available for children fourteen (14) and older.

Do you require riders to wear helmets?
We recommend riding helmets for all levels and ages and require them for riders twelve and under.

What do we need to bring to ride?
  • Long pants
  • Riding boots (we have some loners available)
  • Helmet (if under twelve, suggested for all)
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen
